food for thought

had some time to kill before meeting my folks for lunch so we wandered over to food for thought. to our surprise, it was packed to the rafters at 1145! there was a 45minute wait for a table and somewhat disgruntled, we perched ourselves at the bar and took in the surroundings. liked the social enterprise slant of the place but didn't particularly appreciate being reminded before noon that my bath tub drinks cleaner water than 5/6 of the world. granted, i shouldn't have taken that personally because i 1. don't have a bath tub 2. have enjoyed long-term involvement in a water project in cambodia 3. agree that water is a big issue and there is probably something positive i can do. but it was a little off-putting to feel guilted into contributing to a water fund over brunch.

didn't stay to eat but the zucchini gratin that waltzed past tempted me to forgo the family and stuff my face right then and there. the pancakes looked good and he declared their macchiato one of the best. the prices were very fair for the place - a far cry from spruce and the chichi club ;) definitely somewhere i'd revisit and stay longer at.
